Wang Hsi-chih first studied calligraphy under Madame Wei and later also turned his
interests widely to the works of master calligraphers of previous periods to assimilate
their virtues. He thereby created an fluent style based on tradition yet which was a
transformation of the manner of calligraphy theretofore. The eloquent and graceful
calligraphic style of these three passages are revered as the optimal and eternal ideal
of the semi-cursive script.
